Pierre School District moved to approve sanctioning varsity and jv soccer for the 2014 school year at it's 5-9-14 board meeting.
THANK YOU to the entire Pierre School Board for your dedication to students in the Pierre School District.
The Pierre Soccer Booster Club, Oahe FC and the Capital Area Soccer Association would like to announce that the Pierre School District has approved sanctioning of High School soccer for the 2014 Fall season. This result comes from the culmination of transitional planning done by CASA (parent organization of high school soccer program prior to school district) to set aside funding specifically for this transition over the past 15+ years the high school program has existed. That planning along with the fundraising efforts of energetic parents and generous community supporters over the years of the Pierre Soccer Booster Club and Oahe FC gave the soccer community the ability to offer the school district a substantial donation to assist with the financial transition into a sanctioned program.
The high school club program began in Pierre in the late 90’s. Unrecognized by the school for the first few years, the program was able to enter into an agreement with the high school in 2002 to proudly wear the green and white and be known as the Governors and Lady Govs. The boys program has seen five different head coaches and the girls program three. Head coaches of the Governors include Joe Wilson, Tom Johnson, Chris Derry, Martyn Beeny and Brad Cruse. On the girl’s side have been Tom Rounds, Kevin Forsch and Sidney Zanin. Kids playing recreational soccer in CASA and club soccer under Oahe FC have been growing as players with dreams of being Govs or Lady Govs over the years and that continues today.
The Pierre soccer community would like to thank the Pierre School District and School Board for providing our student athletes the stability of a sanctioned High School program. We look forward to many years of success for the Governor and Lady Gov Soccer Teams at TF Riggs High School.
