Representing Your Community at Games
The game of High School soccer allows fans to be closer to the action than any other sport. That close proximity to the game allows you to share that experience with the players, but it also comes with responsibility. Ultimately the coaching staff is responsible for the play and behavior of their team and also the behavior of the fans on the other side of the field, but they need the help of everyone. The primary function of a fan is to support the team, encourage the players, and recognize good play and sportsmanship on both teams.
Coaching. Coaches have typically spent many hours preparing the team for the competition. Players are in specific positions because of specific talents or needs by the team, and each has been instructed on what is expected of them. Parental/fan correction of players on the field is a huge distraction for the player, and makes the job of coaching much more difficult. Please keep it encouraging from the sidelines and let the coaches do their job.
Officiating. There has never been an decision made on the field or on the sidelines changed for the positive because of the opinions of fans, but when officials are being verbally abused it is typical that a 50-50 call will not go to the team that the abuse is coming from. There are good officials and bad, it is part of the game. Negative opinions expressed on the ability or character of officials does not help our team, and reflects poorly on our community
Opposing teams. Coaches across the state have varying levels of experience and different styles based upon their background. Some coaches play a more physical game, but everyone has to live within the rules set forth by the High School handbook and associated FIFA rules. At this level teams are there to win, with each coach and player working towards that goal. Recognize good play on both sides and keep it positive. We enjoy spending time on the sidelines getting to know everyone. Lets make this a season where the Pierre program is remembered for the great play on the field and great support by the fans.
Thanks For you Support
